Yamaha takes advantage of MotoGP concession rules with new M1 engine
Like Honda, Yamaha is taking advantage of the concessions approved at the end of last year to aid manufacturers in need of performance improvements. These concessions allow race riders to have more private test days, with increased tire availability and engine development opportunities. Honda has been actively testing with around 22 private events planned, while Yamaha initially focused on the European calendar for reference. Yamaha’s main challenge has been engine power, leading them to seek expertise from renowned engineer Luca Marmorini and test a new engine specification. Unfortunately, bad weather in Portugal hindered the testing, prompting Yamaha to delay fitting the new engine to Quartararo’s bike. Whether the new power unit will be used in upcoming races remains to be seen.
